This Privacy Policy explains what information WholeBean ("WholeBean," "we," "us") collects when you use the WholeBean app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built WholeBean to be transparent about your data — including the coffees you discover and the collection you build.

The short version. We collect the account details you give us and the coffee data you create so we can sync your collection across your devices. We use a small amount of analytics to keep the app working well. We don't sell your personal information.

1Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name (optional), email address, and authentication identifiers. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the identifiers Apple provides based on your sharing choices.
Your collection & content. The coffees you scan and save, your tasting notes, ratings, brew methods, venues, and the photos you attach. This content is stored in your account and synced to our servers so it's available on all your devices.
Scan data. Images and recognized text from coffee labels you capture, plus the matched bean details we return.
Usage & device data. App interactions, feature usage, crash reports, and basic device information (device model, OS version, app version) used for reliability and improvement.
Purchase data. If you subscribe, your subscription status is processed by Apple. We receive the transaction and entitlement details needed to unlock features — we never receive your full payment card details.

2How we use your information

Provide core features — identifying beans, saving experiences, and syncing your collection across devices.
Maintain your account and authenticate you securely.
Improve recognition quality, fix bugs, and develop new features.
Communicate with you about your account, security, and important service changes.
Protect against fraud, abuse, and security threats.

3Cloud sync & storage

Your collection is stored in your WholeBean account and synced through our cloud infrastructure so you can access it on any device where you're signed in. Data is encrypted in transit using TLS and encrypted at rest by our infrastructure providers. You remain the owner of the content you create.

4How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these limited cases:

Service providers. Trusted vendors who host our infrastructure, provide analytics, and deliver crash reporting, acting on our instructions under contract.
Legal reasons. When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and WholeBean.
Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

5Your choices & rights

Access & export. You can view and export the collection you've created in the app.
Delete. You can delete individual entries, or delete your account to remove your synced data, subject to limited retention for legal and security purposes.
Analytics. You can opt out of optional analytics in the app's settings, and manage tracking permissions in iOS Settings.
Regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your data. Contact us to exercise them.

6Data retention

We keep your account and collection data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

7Children's privacy

WholeBean is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.

8Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of WholeBean after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
